Atholhu Laguna – The palm of your hand
A Volcano spits bright orange molten lava from it’s slate grey rocks. Deep beneath the azure ocean this fiery explosion quenches, freezing in shape from the cold water making the solidified lava into a new island. This is an inhospitable place yet it forms New Beginnings allowing coral to grow and thrive. This rich and fertile barrier reef makes for new habitat, an atoll from which to grow. As the tip of the volcano receeds back into the ocean it leaves behind a lagoon of aqua, an azul of resurgence, of life teaming with colour.
The word atoll comes from the Dhivehi word “atholhu” meaning “The palm of the hand”.
